HELPING HANDS

Ages 7-11

Fridays, from 3:45-5:15 p.m.

Kids ages 7-11 can complete community service requirements for school and/or volunteer their time at Woods Humane Society through the Helping Hands program.

The Helping Hands volunteer team helps make the animals in our shelter more comfortable and content by making treats and toys to enrich their lives, reading aloud to soothe their senses, creating art to help promote adoptions, and more!

There is a flat $30 Participation Fee for the school year; after that, participants can come as often as they choose. *Participants MUST sign up online to reserve a spot. Spaces are limited and events are subject to cancellation.*

Book Buddies

Read to Animals in Need!

Ages 6+

Mondays 4-4:30 p.m.

Just as children enjoy hearing a story before bedtime, cats and dogs are soothed by the gentle, rhythmic sound of the human voice when we read books aloud! Help Woods animals relax and adjust to their temporary home in the shelter by signing up to be a Book Buddy. The program has been shown to improve kids’ reading skills as well! Win-win!

Bring your own book, or check one out from our Humane Education Library. Read 10 Humane Education books to earn a prize!

Book Buddies is held every Monday from 4-4:30 p.m. and is supervised by the Humane Education Coordinator. There is a flat $30 Participation Fee for the school year; after that, participants can come as often as they choose. *Participants MUST sign up online to reserve a spot. Spaces are limited and events are subject to cancellation.*

Independent Service Projects

Help Animals from Home!

For students who need or want to do community service according to their own schedule (or for those who simply want to help Woods Humane Society and the animals in our care), there are many ways you can make a difference doing an Independent Community Service Project.

Past projects have included baking and selling dog-treats and other fundraisers, as well as donation drives to collect items from our Wish List.  Download our flyer for more ideas and then, to begin the process, contact our Humane Education Coordinator, Jamie at HumaneEd@woodshumanesociety.org or (805) 543-9316 x 13.

Please note that we must be contacted at least one month prior to the date hours must be completed to ensure a quality experience is had by all.
