Spay and Neuter Services

Every year in this country millions of cats and dogs of all ages and breeds are euthanized or suffer as strays. These high numbers are the result of litters that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering.

Woods Humane Society has spayed or neutered all of our animals before their adoption beginning in 1993 and since the Woods/Cashin Surgery Suite opened in 2006 our medical team has performed thousands of surgeries each year.

Woods is committed to promoting the importance of spay and neuter and expanding our spay and neuter efforts.  Please consider these reasons to spay and neuter your own cats and dogs.  As always, your veterinarian is the best person to consult about important health issues for your pet.

Spay/Neuter Services are currently provided at our San Luis Obispo location:

Spay It Forward--This program is available to any individual who owns an unaltered cat and can show proof of residence in the northern part of San Luis Obispo County. Click here for details.

Public Spay/Neuter--Woods is now offering limited spay/neuter surgeries for publicly owned cats and dogs. Please click here for pricing information. To schedule your appointment, please download and complete our medical consent form for DOGS or CATS and call (805) 540-2692.

MOM Spay--A program for cats and dogs who have recently given birth.

Woods will waive the fees for accepting litters of kittens and puppies into our adoption program.  The babies must all be from the same litter, be over 8 weeks and under 16 weeks old.

We’ll provide a spay surgery for the mother, who then returns home. The spay fee for cats is $25.  The fee for dogs depends on the weight of the mother and ranges from $95 - $125.  You can reach us at (805) 540-2691 or intake@woodshumane.org for more information or to make an appointment.

Feline Network Voucher Program--If you live in the city of SLO, south county and the coastal communities, the Feline Network of the Central Coast can provide help for those who cannot afford to spay or neuter their owned cats by providing vouchers to help cover the cost.  Woods Humane Society will accept this voucher plus a $10 co-payment.  To learn more about this program, contact the Feline Network.  Once you've provided Feline Network with the necessary information for the voucher, please contact Woods at (805) 540-2692 to schedule an appointment.

Trap, Neuter and Return--Woods Humane Society is working hand-in-hand with other groups in San Luis Obispo County to provide an ultra-low cost option for feral and community cat sterilization, through our Project M.E.O.W.  If you are concerned about unowned cats living in your neighborhood, please reach out to the Feline Network of the Central Coast or, in north county, Paws Cause.
