We have been serving the Central Coast since 1955, and our longevity Is largely the result of having volunteers like you!

The first step to become a volunteer with the Society is to join us for a Welcome Orientation. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at skragenbrink@woodshumane.org or 805.543.9316 x 19 for more information.

 
 

Canine Enrichment Volunteer

 
   

Objective: To help the dogs become more adoptable through mental enrichment and basic obedience training.

Duties: Learn and perform the "Do Nothing" exercise which reinforces calm and quiet behavior, volunteers will also engage in basic obedience training.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 16 years of age
  2. Must complete a Volunteer Application

Training:

  1. Attend the Welcome Orientation
  2. Attend 1 Canine Enrichment Workshop

Commitment: A minimum of 4 hours a month for 6 months

Supervision: Direct supervision by a Woods Behavior Associate

Progression: After the volunteer attends a total of 4 Canine Enrichment Workshops, and has demonstrated advanced proficiency in animal handling, the volunteer will be evaluated as a candidate for our Off-Site Animal Handling and Pet Visitations volunteer programs.

 

Volunteers under 18 years of age

Must have a parent/guardian release form on file


Volunteers under 16 years of age

Must have a parent/guardian present to volunteer


 

Community Service Program

 

Woods Humane Society welcomes participants with both school and court requested community service hours to join us in helping to provide a premier level of care for the dogs and cats at Woods.

SLOVOAD - Lead Agency for large-scale disaster

Woods Humane Society is actively participating as a Lead Agency for SLOVOAD. In the event of a large-scale local disaster, Woods Humane Society will mobilize our resources to support displaced local pets.
