Coronavirus CEO Statement

Friends of Woods,

As the cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to grow, many are understandably concerned for their health and the health of their loved ones. I am writing to you today to let you know what Woods Humane Society is doing in response to these concerns.

Our staff and volunteers are committed to recommended practices. These include regular handwashing, daily deep cleaning of the shelter including our lobby area, administrative offices, the cattery, the dog kennels, and continuous cleaning of flat surfaces, door handles and restrooms. Additionally, hand sanitizer can be found throughout the shelter, and staff and volunteers will be staying home if experiencing any signs of illness.

We will be following additional steps to best ensure the health and safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, including sanitizing pens and clipboards, wiping down desktop surfaces and frequent cleaning of electronic touchscreens.

Along with the aforementioned cautionary measures, we are also choosing to postpone spring events taking place at Woods Humane Society. This prudent and necessary decision will further allow us to better protect the safety and health of Woods’ supporters, staff and volunteers.

With regard to our cats and dogs, while there is no indication that animals can contract this illness, our medical team will remain vigilant with regard to the health and well-being of our animals.

And lastly, as you consider your health and the health of your loved ones, we ask that you also consider your pets. Though none of us want to think about the possibility of becoming ill, it is imperative that we make accommodations for our pets in the event of an unexpected illness.

We are privileged to be a source of information and support for our community and we will continue to be so throughout this challenging time. We are committed to open and honest communication and we will continue to reach out to you as this situation evolves.
