Maintenance Coordinator (temporary)

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Coordinator (Temporary) approximately three to four months commencing last week of June

DEPARTMENT: Shelter Operations

REPORTS TO: Adoption Program Manager
The Woods Humane Society team provides all patrons with top-notch customer service, all animals with the best possible care our resources permit; approaches each and every animal and person with compassion and understanding; performs daily in an effective and efficient manner and fosters a pleasurable work environment rich in practical learning and team work.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Maintenance Coordinator supports the Director of Operations and Facility Committee to ensure that the buildings, equipment and grounds owned and managed by Woods Humane Society are properly maintained.

SCHEDULE: (subject to change): Four days per week (24 hours) with additional hours as needed. One hour unpaid lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·        At least two years related experience

·        Basic knowledge and experience with tools used for building and maintenance

·        Basic knowledge and experience with landscaping maintenance

·        Basic knowledge and experience with janitorial maintenance

·        A valid California Driver's License

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

·        Basic use of tools needed to repair, maintain and build as needed

·        Prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks in an often busy working environment

·        Detail-oriented and resourceful

·        Effective verbal and written communication

·        Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining energy and enthusiasm through often-times repetitive tasks

·        Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated as well as work in a close group setting

·        Ability to maintain professionalism in all interactions with all people at all times

·        Demonstrate the mission and vision of the organization on and off the job

·        Basic working knowledge of computer systems including all Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet, Communication technology (smartphone apps for alarm system, texting, etc.)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Continuous exposure to infectious organisms, animal waste, allergens, chemical materials requiring OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets, high noise, sharp objects, potential hostile persons and/or dangerous and fractious animals, including the risk of animal bites and scratches.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·        Work with a variety of chemicals, tools and machinery

·        Work in an environment with daily changes in climate

·        Regularly required to use hands, fingers, voice and hearing

·        Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch

·        Specific vision abilities required are close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus

·        The ability to lift and carry 75 pounds for 100 feet

RESPONSIBLITIES

·        Perform preventive maintenance of building and grounds as assigned

·        Perform basic janitorial duties around building and grounds as assigned

·        Maintain and repair mechanical equipment, buildings and company vehicles

·        Inspect and report any maintenance issues

·        Recognize when the project at hand is beyond basic repair and request professional support by a licensed contractor through the Operations Director

·        Assemble and set up equipment or furniture

·        Assist in projects as needed

·        Communicate and schedule needed use of company vehicles

·        Weekly grounds/facility walks

·        Daily checks of emails and maintenance logs to address needs promptly

·        Supervise volunteer groups to assist on maintenance/grounds work projects

·         Till Miossi play yards once a week

·        Assist in set up and break down for events

·        Help dispense deliveries including  pet food to the appropriate storage areas

·        Move donations from lobby to garage or appropriate area as needed

·        Refill and stock items as needed

·        Empty all large trash bins weekly including break room and recycling bins/cardboard

·        Maintain Woods University and the Zamboni floor cleaner as needed

·        To arrive for scheduled shifts on time and prepared to work and work diligently throughout the entire shift

·        To contact the Adoption Manager if you will miss your assigned shift

·        To contribute to a positive atmosphere and working environment at WHS

·        Be able to work independently and with a team

·        To communicate in a timely and professional manor

·        To model proper interactions with co-workers, volunteers and customers at all times

·        Supervise and coordinate vendors as needed

·        To make good use of time and plan days efficiently

·        To get approval before purchases over $100

·        Able to handle and move animals as needed

 

WOODS HUMANE SOCIETY GENERAL:

·        Maintain a neat and well-groomed personal appearance

·        Attend quarterly all staff meetings, trainings and utilize training material

·        Attend meetings with the Director of Operations and Adoption Program Manager

·        Participate as a member of the Woods Facility Committee

·        Abide by all policies

·        Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations and Adoption Program Manager

·        Exhibit professional representation of the organization

·        Accurately field questions regarding the organizations services and programs
