Adoptable Animals

Adoption Process Update

  • New animals are coming in at regular intervals, Woods has had to adapt our processes for intake to accommodate COVID restrictions on social distance, travel, etc. There are fewer animals in shelters overall, adoptions are high and surrenders are low but Woods continues our lifesaving work regardless and continues to take in animals looking for loving homes.
  • All adoptions and surrenders are scheduled by appointment only to limit the number of people in the facility at any given time and accommodate the need for social distancing.
  • Interested in adopting? Please visit our available animals pages below and choose an animal to meet. Call one of our adoption centers to schedule an appointment.
  • Our Customer Service Representatives will review the pet's information with all potential adopters over the phone before scheduling an appointment.
  • We ask all adopters with appointments to remain in their cars when they arrive at our adoption centers. When you make your appointment, you will be given a special curbside phone number to call when you arrive.
  • Dog appointments take place outdoors, with WHS Adoption Counselor bringing the dog out to meet you. Time is spent reviewing the dog’s profile, including behavioral and medical information and determining if it is the right fit for the pet and the family.
  • Cat appointments take place in our Cattery, one appointment at a time to allow for social distancing.
  • We have built in time between appointments for sanitizing, preparing for the next appointment, and handling possible returns/owner surrenders.

Cleaning and keeping everyone safe

  • We sanitize our lobby between scheduled appointments by wiping down countertops, chairs, pens, and clipboards. We sanitize Cattery door handles and towers that might have been touched after each cat appointment. Staff members are hand washing after each appointment and using hand sanitizer throughout the day.
  • We sanitize chairs, gate handles and other surfaces outdoors between each dog adoption appointment.
  • We are practicing social distancing and staying 6 feet or more from adopters and of course wearing our face masks at all times when social distancing is not possible.
  • We have increased signage at every entrance and in the parking lot informing the need for masks, maintaining social distance and appointments required.

We hope you see some homeless pets that you simply must meet in person! Check back often, as our pages are updated every hour. Keep in mind that you may see an animal that is already in the adoption process, so please be open-hearted to falling in love with another pet that needs a home.
